H. cooperi var. pilifera is characteristic by its bluish-green colour, shorter and more stumpy leaves (than var. cooperi), with less pronounced marginal spines, leaf end mostly with bristle. It is slowly offsetting species. Size of the rosette can be from 4 cm - 12 cm. They often grow close to the soil and in dry period they becomes very cryptic, only with leave tips visible above the ground. This variety constitutes the main bod of cooperi species.
